Support HB1212

Pass the Safer Devices for Kids Act

OUR STANCE

All too often when using mobile devices, children have easy access to hardcore pornographic videos and explicit content that harms their brains and fuels addiction. We must protect our children from this damaging content by requiring manufacturers to enable existing filters for minors, instead of defaulting to “OFF” as it is now. The bill will require a password to be activated for the filter, easily allowing parents to switch the filter on and off.

Sample letter

I am writing to express my strong support for HB1212, which seeks to require that all devices, tablets, and smartphones manufactured on or after January 1, 2026, and activated within our state, include an enabled filter to prevent minors from accessing obscene material. This bill is a crucial step in protecting our children from exposure to harmful content and ensuring a safer digital environment for families.

The widespread availability of inappropriate and explicit online material has made it increasingly difficult for parents to monitor their children's online activity. While parental controls exist, they often require extensive setup and are easily bypassed. By mandating that these filters be pre-enabled on all newly manufactured devices, we can provide an essential safeguard against the harmful effects of unrestricted access to obscene content.

Furthermore, this bill rightly prohibits unauthorized individuals from deactivating the filter, ensuring that its protections remain in place. As we continue to embrace technology in our daily lives, it is imperative that we implement responsible measures to protect our youth from content that could negatively impact their development.

I urge you to support this bill and advocate for its passage in the legislature. Protecting our children from inappropriate online content is not a partisan issue—it is a shared responsibility that demands immediate action. Please consider the well-being of our state's families and vote in favor of this critical legislation.

Thank you for your time and dedication to serving our community. I appreciate your attention to this important matter and would be grateful for any updates on the bill’s progress.

Sincerely,
